“Outstanding” GCSE outcomes at Abbeywood

Stoke Gifford’s Abbeywood Community School reports that this year’s Year 11 students have registered “outstanding” GCSE results. As in all schools, the grades awarded have been based on teacher assessments. This follows a government decision to abandon Ofqual’s proposed algorithm-based approach.

How Stoke Gifford’s OSR Scouts have been keeping busy during lockdown

Since lockdown began and face-to-face scouting was halted throughout the UK, the 1st Stoke Gifford Old School Rooms (OSR) Scouts have met regularly on Zoom (the videoconferencing app), where they’ve done loads of activities from baking, cooking, model making, Kahoot quizzes, bingo, scavenger hunts…

Three months of temporary traffic lights coming to Hatchet Road for MetroBus work

Two-way temporary traffic lights are to be installed on Hatchet Road from mid-September for a period of three months. They are required to enable two existing bus stops to be upgraded to MetroBus-specification stops as part of the Cribbs Patchway MetroBus Extension scheme.

Another “excellent” set of Post-16 results for Abbeywood

Year 13 students at Abbeywood Community School are celebrating an excellent set of Post-16 results, with over half of students receiving grades A*-B and over 20 percent receiving a top grade. The overall pass rate was 99 percent.

Rail bridge installation delayed until autumn

A new date has been confirmed for the installation of the replacement railway bridge on Gipsy Patch Lane following the postponement of the work due to the coronavirus pandemic. The bridge move will now take place between 24th October and 7th November 2020.

Little Stoke Scouts keep active during lockdown

Members of 1st Little Stoke Scout Group have not met face to face since the end of March, however, Scouting has continued at home with leaders contacting their sections via email and using Zoom video conferencing. All three sections have been involved in the national ‘Hike to the Moon’ initiative.

Little Stoke Sort It recycling centre to reopen on Monday 6th July

The Sort It recycling centre in Little Stoke will reopen with social distancing measures in place from Monday 6th July, having been temporarily closed due to the coronavirus emergency. The facility will initially reopen with temporarily extended hours of 6am to 4.30pm every day until Monday 13th July.

Traffic lights to be installed at Parkway bridge to facilitate ‘social distancing’

Temporary traffic signals are to be installed at Parkway railway bridge in order to facilitate easier ‘social distancing’ for pedestrians and cyclists passing under the structure. The changes are to be implemented for a two-week trial period starting on Sunday 14th June.
