St Michael’s Primary School is celebrating a big win for one of its pupils whose design was picked by metro mayor Dan Norris in his annual Christmas card competition. After careful judging of thousands of entries by the mayor and his staff, eight-year-old Ellie Walters’s design of a festive dog saw off stiff competition to win the contest.

Plans approved for latest batch of 143 homes along Stoke Gifford By-Pass
Detailed plans for a further 143 homes along the Stoke Gifford By-Pass have been approved by officers at South Gloucestershire Council. Submitted by Crest Nicholson, the application relates to Phases 2.1, 2.2a & 2.2b of the developer’s ‘South of the Railway’ site, which has outline planning permission for a total of 1,290 homes, a local centre, community facilities, landscaping and open space.

A man in his 20s suffered bruising, three chipped teeth and shoulder and jaw injuries after he was punched by a group of eight to ten youths at approximately 11.40pm on Wednesday 8th November. The Stoke Gifford branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) launched its 2023/24 Poppy Appeal with a ceremony in the foyer of Bristol Parkway Station on Friday 27th October. Money raised through the Poppy Appeal goes to the RBL’s Welfare Fund, which is used to give help and support to serving and ex-service personnel and their families.

Revised plans have been submitted for the final two phases of a 1,200-dwelling housing development in Harry Stoke which was granted outline planning permission more than 15 years ago. Crest Nicholson, working in cooperation with Sovereign Homes, wants to build 229 homes on a parcel of vacant land that lies between the existing Highbrook Park estate and the A4174 Ring Road.

Stoke Gifford parish councillors have voted to defer making a decision on replacing play equipment in Meade Park that was destroyed in an arson attack in June. However, they agreed to pursue the most popular option chosen in a public consultation which was to replace the destroyed play fort with a basic platform or steps to support a slide plus the installation of a separate zip wire.

Bus passengers in Stoke Gifford and Little Stoke will see a number of timetable and route changes coming into effect from Sunday 3rd September. The changes affect First Bus services M4 MetroBus, 19, 73 and Y6. Some journeys on the M4 MetroBus service will be “sped up to avoid excess slack in the timetable”, while the Y6 has a route change between Southmead Hospital and Bristol city centre.
