South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) has announced that it is working towards establishing a weekly parkrun session in Little Stoke Park.
Parkrun is a free, weekly 5k timed run, which takes place all over the UK and beyond, every Saturday at 9am, all year round.
An item on the Council’s website reads:
“We would really like Little Stoke to join the parkrun community. Parkrun would bring weekly opportunities for local people to run for free and improve their health and fitness in a fun and sociable setting.”
“We have secured funding and now we need more enthusiastic locals to join our growing team of volunteers to make it happen every week. You are invited to sample a taste of parkrun on Wednesday, 22nd August at 7pm in Little Stoke Park. Meet us at the community hall for a chance to either run the (5k) course or help by setting up, marshalling, taking times, serving free refreshments etc. How can you turn down a chance to taste our unique parkrun muffins?!”
Helpers are asked to arrive by 6.15pm and runners by 6.45pm.
Runners can register their interest by contacting the Council in advance (see below) but you can just turn up on the night. All ages and abilities are welcome!

An article on the Bristol & West AC website says a regular parkrun will start in October, provided the organisers can get enough volunteers.
Another local parkrun, in Bristol’s Ashton Court, was established in April 2011 and now regularly attracts more than 100 entrants.

Will Parkrun@Little Stoke return and become a weekly Saturday event, as I would like to mix it up with trips to the Ashton Court 5k, especially with this one being on my doorstep? My hubby did the trial and I’d like to participate, I believe quite a few ran it?
Update: Weekly Parkrun to commence on 3rd November
