Little Stoke resident Mike Trevelyan is due to set off on a mammoth 2,000 mile charity cycle ride this week, to raise money for St Peter’s Hospice.
Mike, 21, plans to visit the grounds of all 92 Football and Premier League clubs in England and Wales in just 92 days.
His epic journey, titled “Trev’s 92-Day Trek”, begins on Wednesday (2nd May) at the Memorial Stadium, Bristol, and, all being well, will end on 1st August at Cheltenham Town’s Whaddon Road ground.
Mike is making the trip in memory of his dad, Edward, – known as Trev – a massive Bristol Rovers fan who was looked after at the hospice.
The 1st August is significant for Mike as it is the anniversary of the day his dad passed away at the charity’s Brentry hospice, following a two month stay.
Mike said:
“I lost my father just over three years ago to cancer and have been trying to think of ways to raise money for the hospice.”
“All of the staff looking after my father did such a fantastic job looking after him, for which I am extremely grateful.”
For further details of Mike’s trip, see his Facebook page, follow him on Twitter (@Trevs92daytrek) and visit his JustGiving page.
The first day of Trev’s 92-Day Trek will see him visit the Bristol City and Yeovil Town grounds.
Andy Crane who has helped Mike out with parts and equipment will be accompanying him as far as Plymouth (Friday 4th May), after which Mike will be on his own as he heads on to Torquay, Bournemouth, Southampton and the other eighty-odd remaining grounds.
Mike told The Journal:
“I am really eager to get going. The weather hasn’t been too great for the past week or so, hopefully things will improve for Wednesday so I can get off to a good start!”
St Peter’s, Bristol’s only adult hospice cared for 2,200 patients in the region and supported more than 6,000 family members last year, including children. All care is provided free of charge, but with the NHS contributing just under a quarter of the £6.5 million needed to run the hospice a year, support from the public is essential.
