A group of residents at Stoke Gifford Retirement Village, off Coldharbour Lane, have spent nearly 200 hours creating a knitted effigy of the Queen to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. The figure was guest of honour at afternoon tea on Sunday (5th June 2022) as the 230 residents at the village came together to celebrate.

WI branch contributes to ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’
Members of Stoke Gifford WI assembled in Royal Park, Stoke Gifford on Saturday 30th April to attach a plaque to a tree they had planted late last year to mark Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. They decided to plant a tree as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, which invites people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.

Dramatic scenes in Bush Avenue, Little Stoke, on Sunday night (10th April) saw a mother and two children escape from a blazing semi-detached house. Approximately 30 firefighters from Patchway, Avonmouth, Southmead, Temple, Kingswood and Yate attended the incident, which was first reported to the emergency services at 8.25pm.

The Stoke Gifford branch of the Royal British Legion launched its 2021/22 Poppy Appeal with a ceremony in the foyer of Bristol Parkway Station on Friday 29th October. A Festival of Remembrance concert will be held on Saturday 13th November followed by a ceremony at the cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday (14th November).
