The Stoke Gifford branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) launched its 2022/23 Poppy Appeal with a ceremony in the foyer of Bristol Parkway Station earlier today (Friday 28th October). Money raised through the Poppy Appeal goes to the RBL’s Welfare Fund, which is used to give help and support to serving and ex-service personnel and their families.

Councillors justified their decision on the grounds that a parking survey provided insufficient information because it took place in July when all the students who rent flats in the area and their cars were away.

The man admitted two non-dwelling burglaries, two theft from motor vehicle offences, an attempted theft from motor vehicle offence and a further theft, when he appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 6th October.

A project to provide a community centre to serve the residents of around 1,200 new homes in Harry Stoke has suffered a setback after Stoke Gifford Parish Council pulled out of negotiations to run the new facility. Funding for the construction of the centre is being provided by the housing developers, as part of their community infrastructure commitments.

Residents at Stoke Gifford Retirement Village who created a knitted effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to mark the late monarch’s Platinum Jubilee have spoken of their sadness at her death. A letter sent from Balmoral Castle in August said Her Majesty had been “interested to see the splendid photos” of their creation and “touched by the care taken by all those involved”.

Police officers investigating a series of vehicle fires in north Bristol in April are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man in new CCTV footage they’ve released today (7th September). The appeal relates to an incident in which two men set fire to 24 vehicles in the Stoke Gifford, Little Stoke, Patchway and Bradley Stoke areas during the early hours of Sunday 3rd April.

Abbeywood Community School has reported a “strong” set of GCSE examination results, with Grades 7-9 across a wide range of subjects, as well as many Grades 5-9 in English and Mathematics. The proportion of students achieving Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics was 65 percent.
